313 Chaldaea is a largeMain beltasteroid. It is classified as aC-type asteroid and is probably composed ofcarbonaceous material.[2] It was discovered byJohann Palisa on 30 August 1891 inVienna. It was named in honor of theChaldeans, considered the founders ofastrology.[3]
In 2003, the asteroid was detected by radar from theArecibo Observatory at a distance of 1.07 AU. The resulting data yielded an effective diameter of96 ± 14 km.[4]
