3-Pyrrolylethylamine (3-NEA or2-(1H-pyrrol-3-yl)ethylamine) is achemical compound of thearylalkylamine family.[1] It can be thought of as theanalogue oftryptamine (2-indolylethylamine) in which thebenzene component of theindolering has been removed, leaving only apyrrole ring.[1]
The compound is also related to other arylalkylamines as well astrace amines includingphenethylamine (2-phenylethylamine),2-furylethylamine,thiopropamine (1-(2-thienyl)-2-aminopropane), andisocyclamine (cyclopentanylaminopropane), among others.[1] Many of these compounds aremonoamine releasing agents and/orreuptake inhibitors.[1]
3-NEA was first described in thescientific literature by 1965.[1]
