In 1899, the 22nd parallel was used by British colonial authorities to define theEgypt–Sudan border.^[2] Although Egypt continues to claim the 22nd parallel as its southern border, Sudan claims a later colonial border dating to 1902, resulting in theHalaib Triangle being claimed by both countries andBir Tawil being unclaimed by any UN member state.

The25th parallel north is acircle of latitude that is 25degreesnorth of theEarth'sequatorial plane. It crossesAfrica,Asia, theIndian Ocean, thePacific Ocean,North America and theAtlantic Ocean.

The northernmost section of theborder betweenMauritania andMali is defined by the parallel.^[6]

At this latitude thesun is visible for 13 hours, 42 minutes during thesummer solstice and 10 hours, 35 minutes during thewinter solstice.^[7]

The area between the 25th and26th parallels north is the most populated latitude band, with 279 million people as of 2022.^[8]
