The2030s (pronounced "twenty-thirties" or "two thousand [and] thirties"; shortened to "the '30s" and also known as "The Thirties"[1]) is the upcomingdecade that will begin on 1 January 2030, and end on 31 December 2039.
NASA target the 2030s for acrewed mission to Mars, with significant progress made through itsArtemis program and Mars-focused technology development.[2] The Artemis missions, including the upcomingArtemis II crewed lunar flyby andArtemis III lunar landing, are designed to test systems and capabilities essential forMars exploration.[3] NASA has also introduced a new class of astronauts in 2025 who may participate in future missions to the Moon and Mars.[4] According to NASA'sMars Exploration Program, the agency is actively developing technologies and strategies to enable sustainable human presence on Mars, including nuclear power systems, advanced habitats, and in-situ resource utilization.[5]
Some climate-related goals fromCOP26 are for 2030:
TheGlasgow Climate Pact aims to "[reduce] global carbon dioxide emissions by 55% by 2030 relative to the 2010 level".[7] However, based on existing pledges the emissions in the year 2030 will be 14% higher than in 2010.[8]
More than 100 countries pledged to reversedeforestation.
India plans to draw half of its energy requirement from renewable sources.[9]
The 2030 Climate Target Plan of the EU aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030. TheEuropean Commission made proposals in July 2021 for how to achieve this goal.[11]
Theinternational community, including theUnited Nations,World Bank, and theUnited States, have set the goal of completely eradicatingextreme poverty by 2030.[12] Noting a significant decline in extreme poverty since 1990, the World Bank has noted that the end of extreme poverty is in sight and pledged to cut it down to at most 3% of the world's population by this time.[13]
All regions of the Lower Volga, southern Western Siberia and part of the Far East will experience a shortage of water resources for agriculture.[33]
End of the project Pakistan Vision 2035, the successor toPakistan Vision 2025 aimed at attaining regional and global leadership in its target sectors.[34]
The world population is expected to reach 9 billion around this time.[35]
