The2026 FIA Formula 2 Championship is a scheduledmotor racing championship forFormula 2 cars sanctioned by theFédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The championship will be the sixtieth season of Formula 2 racing and the tenth season run under theFIA Formula 2 Championship moniker. Formula 2 is anopen-wheel racing category serving as the second tier offormula racing in theFIA Global Pathway. The category will be run in support of selected rounds of the2026 Formula One World Championship. As the championship is aspec series, all teams and drivers competing in the championship will run the same car, theDallara F2 2024.

Invicta Racing will enter the championship as the reigning Teams' Champions, having secured their title at the final race of the previous season in Abu Dhabi.

The following teams and drivers are contracted to compete in the 2026 Formula 2 Championship. As the championship is aspec series, all teams will compete with an identicalDallara F2 2024 chassis using aV6 turbo engine developed byMecachrome.[1] All teams will compete with tyres supplied byPirelli.[2]

Driver changes

Reigning teams' championsInvicta Racing will have an all-new driver lineup as reigning drivers' championLeonardo Fornaroli joined theMcLaren F1 Team as a reserve driver andRoman Staněk left the team.[8] Invicta signed2025 FIA Formula 3 Champion andFerrari Driver Academy driverRafael Câmara fromTrident, andJoshua Dürksen, who leaves AIX Racing after finishing the 2025 campaign ninth to join the team for his third season in the championship.[9][10]

Hitech sawDino Beganovic move to DAMS Lucas Oil andLuke Browning leave the series to compete inSuper Formula withKondo Racing.[11][12] They signedCadillac F1 test driverColton Herta for his Formula 2 debut. He moves over from theIndyCar Series, where he won nine races over eight years and ended the 2025 season in seventh driving forAndretti Global.[13] The team also signed formerSuper Formula championRitomo Miyata, who will embark on his third F2 campaign after coming 17th withART Grand Prix in 2025.[14]

Campos Racing sawPepe Martí graduate toFormula E withCupraKiro ahead of the penultimate round of the 2025 season, andArvid Lindblad graduate toFormula One withRacing Bulls.[15][16] 2025 FIA F3 runner-up andRed Bull Junior Team driverNikola Tsolov, who already replaced Martí for the final two rounds of the 2025 season, will stay with Campos for his full-season graduation.[17] He will be joined byNoel León, who also steps up from FIA F3 after finishing the 2025 season in 17th driving for Prema Racing.[18]

DAMS Lucas Oil will have a new lineup asKush Maini moves toART Grand Prix andJak Crawford will leave the series to join theAston Martin F1 Team as their third driver.[19]Ferrari Driver Academy memberDino Beganovic returns to the team where he made his F2 debut in 2024 as he departsHitech, with whom he finished seventh in 2025, andRoman Bilinski will make his series debut after finishing eleventh in FIA F3 withRodin Motorsport.[11][20]

Richard Verschoor leftMP Motorsport after spending five seasons in the category to joinDuqueine Team in theEuropean Le Mans Series' LMP2 class.[21][22] His replacement will beGabriele Minì, who finished his first full season in F2 in 13th driving forPrema Racing.[23]

Prema Racing replaced MP-bound Minì withAston Martin junior driverMari Boya, who graduates from FIA F3 after finishing the 2025 season in third withCampos Racing.[24]

Rodin Motorsport signedMartinius Stenshorne for his full-season debut after entering the Baku round of the 2025 season withTrident and already deputised forAmaury Cordeel, who left the team, during the final two rounds of 2025. He steps up from FIA F3, where he came fifth in 2025 withHitech.[25]

ART Grand Prix sawRitomo Miyata move to Hitech, whileVictor Martins left Formula 2 after three seasons to joinAlpine for theirWEC Hypercar programme and theWilliams F1 Team as a test and development driver.[26] The team signed Thai driverTasanapol Inthraphuvasak, who finished seventh withCampos Racing in the 2025 FIA F3 season and already made his F2 debut in the 2025 season finale driving for Trident, andKush Maini, who joins ART for his fourth F2 season after finishing 16th in 2025 with DAMS.[27][28]

Joshua Dürksen will leaveAIX Racing after two seasons of driving for the team, to joinInvicta Racing.[10] To replace him, AIX signedEmerson Fittipaldi Jr., who steps up fromEurocup-3, where he drove for MP Motorsport.[29]

Van Amersfoort Racing sawJohn Bennett move toTrident.[30]2023 FIA WEC LMGTE Am Champion and 24 Hours of Le Mans winnerNicolás Varrone, who last competed in single-seaters in the2020 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship, will replace him.[31]

Trident will have an all-new lineup asMax Esterson andSami Meguetounif, who raced for the majority of 2025, will not return to the series, with Esterson joiningRLL Team McLaren inIMSA's GTD class.[32] The team signedJohn Bennett, who finished his debut F2 season 22nd withVan Amersfoort Racing, and FIA F3 driverLaurens van Hoepen, who came 12th withART Grand Prix and already raced with Trident for the last three rounds of 2025.[30][33]

Calendar changes

  • Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3 followed Formula One in replacing the round atImola Circuit with a second round in Spain held at the newly-builtMadring.[35][36]
  • The round atBaku City Circuit will be held a day earlier in the week than usual, with the sprint race held on Friday and the feature race held on Saturday, to accommodate the country's national day.[37]

  • 2025 saw the championship useAramco-supplied fuel containing 70% sustainable components, and a further increase in sustainability is planned for 2026 ahead of the series' goal of adopting fully synthetic fuels in 2027.[38]
