The2025 VFL Women's season was the ninth season of theVFL Women's (VFLW), the state-level senior women'sAustralian rules football competition inVictoria.[2] The season began on 19 April and concluded on 30 August.[3]

North Melbourne Werribee won thepremiership for the second time and the second consecutive year, defeatingCollingwood by six points in the2025 VFLW Grand Final.[4][5]

Background

[edit]

League membership

[edit]

On 28 October 2024, theSandringham Football Club announced that theSouthern Saints would be known as the Sandringham Zebras (as of 1 November 2024), consolidating the identities of its men's and women's teams under the one club for the 2025 season.[6][7] The Saints were formed ahead of the2018 VFLW season and were managed by theSt Kilda Football Club until2020.[8][9]

On 21 February 2025,Richmond announced it would not renew itsaffiliation agreement withPort Melbourne for the 2025 VFLW season, with Port Melbourne instead competing as a standalone club.[10][11] The affiliation had been in place since the2021 VFLW season.[12][13]

Reigning premiers North Melbourne entered into an affiliation with VFL clubWerribee, becoming known as the North Melbourne Werribee Kangaroos and playing up to four games a season atChirnside Park.[14]

Unlike the previous season, the two NSW-based AFL Women's teams have not been fixtured to take part in any matches against VFL Women's teams.[15]

Fixture dates

[edit]

Beginning this season, the VFLW season was played between April and August, instead of March to July.[16] The change occurred after theAustralian Football League (AFL) announced that theAFL Women's season would commence the week beginning 11 August 2025, two weeks earlier than in previous years.[17][18] The 2025 season fixture was announced in February 2025.[19]
