The 2025–26 season is the 139th season in the history ofManchester United, their 34th season in thePremier League and their 51st consecutive and 101st overall season in the top flight ofEnglish football. The club competes in thePremier League,FA Cup and theEFL Cup, but not inEuropean competitions—the first since2014–15.

With the retirement ofJonny Evans, United are without a Premier League winner in their squad for the first time since the competition's inaugural season in the1992–93 season, and without a player who had played under SirAlex Ferguson for the first time since 1974.[a]

The four points amassed in the first four games were the least they earned since the 1992–93 season, though they did go on to win the league that year.[1]

Pre-season and friendlies

[edit]

Before the start of the season, Manchester United faced newly promotedrivals,Leeds United in Solna, Sweden. Then they traveled to the United States to take part in thePremier League Summer Series. The series was made up of three games: againstWest Ham United in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on 26 July;Bournemouth in Chicago, Illinois, on 30 July; andEverton in Atlanta, Georgia, on 3 August.[2] Upon their return from the United States, United hostedFiorentina atOld Trafford in their final pre-season fixture on 9 August for theSnapdragon Cup.[3] United completed pre-season winning both the Premier League Summer Series and the Snapdragon Cup.
