2024 Copa América Group B

Soccer tournament group

Group B of the2024 Copa América was one of four groups in the first stage of the tournament. The tournament involvednational teams fromCONMEBOL (South America) but also includes invited teams from theCONCACAF region (North, Central America and the Caribbean), that qualified via the2023–24 CONCACAF Nations League.[1]

The group was made up ofMexico from CONCACAF,Ecuador andVenezuela, both from CONMEBOL, andJamaica from CONCACAF.[2] The draw for the groups was conducted on December 7, 2023, with Mexico being previouslyseeded into the group.[3] The group's matches took place from June 22–30 at six venues in six U.S. cities.[4]

The top two teams, following around-robin of three matches per team, advanced to thequarter-finals.[5]

The two teams had faced each other 32 times previously,[9] including four Copa América group stage matches: the6–1 and4–0 wins for Ecuador in1993 and2001, a1–0 victory for Venezuela in2011 and a2–2 draw in2021.[10][11] Their most recent meeting was a goalless draw on Venezuelan soil in the2026 FIFA World Cup qualification in November 2023.[12]

Mexico vs Jamaica

The two teams had met 28 times previously (all in competitive events), including Mexico's2–0 group stage win at theCopa América Centenario in 2016, which was the only previous meeting between the two sides in the Copa América.[17] Their most recent encounter was a3–0 semifinal victory for Mexico in the2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.[18]

The two teams had met 12 times previously,[27] including three Copa América group stage matches with two victories for Mexico in1995 and1999, both by a 3–1 score, and a1–1 draw in2016.[28] Their most recent meeting was Mexico's 3–1 win in a friendly game held in June 2019 and overall, Venezuela’s third win since an encounter between the two in August 1982.[29]

Mexico vs Ecuador

The two teams had met 23 times previously,[note 1] including five matches in the Copa América with three victories for Mexico, one for Ecuador and one draw.[35][36]Mexico's 2–0 semifinal win in1993 was followed by a1–1 quarterfinal draw in1997, with Mexico winning 4–2 onpenalties. Three group stage matches followed, with two 2–1 wins for Mexico in2004 and2007 and a2–1 win for Ecuador in2015.[37] The sides most recently met in a friendly in June 2022, which ended in a goalless draw.[38]
