The2024–25 Taça da Liga was the eighteenth edition of theTaça da Liga (also known asAllianz Cup for sponsorship reasons), afootballleague cup competition organised by theLiga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional and contested exclusively by clubs competing in thetwo professional divisions ofPortuguese football – the top-tierPrimeira Liga and the second-tierLiga Portugal 2. This season featured only eight teams in the competition.[1]
As a response to the increasing density of the football calendar, the competition introduced a new format compared to the previous seasons, featuring only eight teams instead of the all the teams from Primeira Liga and Liga Portugal 2.[2] The top six teams from thePrimeira Liga and the top two non-reserve teams from theLiga Portugal 2 were paired according to their league positions to play single-leg quarter-final matches:
The winners qualified to the final-four tournament, which was played at a neutral venue and comprised two single-leg semi-finals and a final. The final four was played at theEstádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa, inLeiria.[1]
