The8th local elections were held inSouth Korea on 1 June 2022. These elections came after thepresidential election in March 2022,[ 1] and coincided with theby-elections for the vacant seats in theNational Assembly . It was the first nationwide election under PresidentYoon Suk Yeol after taking office on 10 May.
PresidentYoon Suk Yeol 's party, thePeople Power Party , decisively won the local elections.[ 2] [ 3] [ 4] [ 5] The 50.9% turnout is the lowest since2002 .
Citizens born before 2 June 2004 had the right to vote and the right to be elected.
