The2022 Iowa State Treasurer election was held on November 8, 2022, to elect theTreasurer of Iowa, concurrently with an election to theU.S. Senate,governor,U.S. House of Representatives, and otherstate andlocal elections. Primary elections were held on June 7, 2022, though both major party candidates only received token write-in opposition.[1] A debate was held on October 7, 2022.[2]

IncumbentDemocratic treasurerMichael Fitzgerald ran for re-election to an eleventh term in office, but was defeated byRepublican state senatorRoby Smith.[3] Fitzgerald was one of two statewide elected Democrats to lose re-election in 2022, along with Attorney GeneralTom Miller.[4]

Smith won 31 counties that had previously voted for Fitzgerald in 2018.[10][9]
