A special election was held on August 17, 2021, to fillConnecticut's 36th State Senate district after incumbent DemocratAlexandra Kasser resigned on June 22, 2021.[1] Democrats nominated Alexis Gevanter,[2] while Republicans nominatedRyan Fazio.[3] John Blankely, a Democrat, ran as an independent. Fazio ended up defeating Gevanter by 458 votes (2.9%), while Blankley earned 408 votes (50 votes less than Fazio's winning margin). This was the first legislative flip of the2021 United States elections.
