Incumbent United StatesPresident Donald Trump was challenged by five candidates: retired advertising executiveRobert Ardini ofNew York, entrepreneur and investorBob Ely ofMassachusetts, entrepreneur and attorney Matthew John Matern ofLouisiana, former congressmanJoe Walsh ofIllinois, and former governorBill Weld ofMassachusetts. Businessman and perennial candidateRocky De La Fuente was also initially on the ballot, but later withdrew his name to avoid a 'sore loser' law.^{[citation needed]}
