The Sun Belt coaches poll was released on August 25, 2020. Georgia Southern was picked to finish second in the East Division.[1]

The Eagles had five players selected to the preseason All−Sun Belt teams; three from the defense and two from special teams.[1]

Georgia Southern had games againstBoise State andOle Miss, which were canceled due to theCOVID-19 pandemic.[2][3] They added a November game withArmy on August 11.[4] On October 7, the game against Appalachian State scheduled for October 14 was postponed to December 12 due to COVID-19 positive tests within the Mountaineers' football program.[5]
