American college football season
The2020 Georgia Bulldogs football team represented theUniversity of Georgia in the2020 NCAA Division I FBS football season . The Bulldogs played their home games atSanford Stadium inAthens, Georgia and were led by fifth-year head coachKirby Smart . For the first time since2016 , the Bulldogs did not win the Eastern Division of theSoutheastern Conference (SEC), finishing second behind rivalFlorida .
In the preseason media poll, Georgia was predicted to finish in second in the East Division behind Florida. Georgia received the second-most votes (tied with LSU) to win the SEC Championship Game.[ 1]
Georgia's2020 college football recruiting class was rated as the best in the country byRivals.com ,247Sports , and On3. Highly-rated recruits included cornerbackKelee Ringo , defensive tackleJalen Carter , offensive tackleBroderick Jones andTate Ratledge , linebacker Mekhail Sherman, and tight endDarnell Washington .
Georgia announced its 2020 football schedule on August 7, 2019.
The Bulldogs had games scheduled againstEast Tennessee State ,Georgia Tech ,Louisiana–Monroe andVirginia , which were all canceled due to theCOVID-19 pandemic .[ 2] [ 3] [ 4] This was the first season since1924 that the Bulldogs did not play Georgia Tech.[ 5]
Georgia played two additional SEC West opponents this season:Arkansas andMississippi State .[ 5] The game scheduled against SEC East opponentVanderbilt was postponed and eventually canceled.[ 6]
