The2019 Memphis Tigers football team represented theUniversity of Memphis in the2019 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Tigers played their home games atLiberty Bowl Memorial Stadium inMemphis, Tennessee, and competed in the West Division of theAmerican Athletic Conference. They were led by fourth-year head coachMike Norvell through the team's win in the AmericanChampionship Game, after which he left to fill the head coaching vacancy atFlorida State.[1] It was the first outright/unshared conference championship in 50 seasons. The team lost only two games, a regular season match-up againstTemple and their bowl game againstPenn State. Offensive line coachRyan Silverfield was initially named head coach of the team for their bowl game, theCotton Bowl; the interim tag was removed and he was named the new head coach of the Tigers.[2][3]
