The2019 Emporia State Hornets football team representedEmporia State University in the2019 NCAA Division II football season. The Hornets played their home games on Jones Field atFrancis G. Welch Stadium inEmporia, Kansas, as they had done since1937.[1] 2019 is the 122nd season in school history.[2] The Hornets were led by head coachGarin Higgins, who was in his 18th season overall, and 13th season at Emporia State as head coach.[3] Emporia State has been a member of theMid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) since 1991.[4]

Preseason

The Hornets entered the 2018 season after finishing with an 8–4 overall and 7–4 in conference play the previous season under Higgins.[6] The 2019 MIAA Media Day was held on July 31.[7] On The Hornets were chosen to finish sixth in the conference preseason polls by the coaches and media.[8]
