The2018–19 Toronto Maple Leafs season was the102nd season for theNational Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on November 22, 1917.[3] TheMaple Leafs forward group changed significantly before the season, losing team veteransTyler Bozak,James van Riemsdyk andLeo Komarov while adding all-star centreJohn Tavares in free agency, which many publications called one of the biggest signings in NHL history.[4][5] On April 1, 2019, the Maple Leafs clinched a playoff spot after a 2–1 win over theNew York Islanders.[6]

The Maple Leafs faced theBoston Bruins in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year, where they lost in seven games.
