The2018–19 Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team represented theUniversity of Alabama in the2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by fourth-year head coachAvery Johnson and played its home games atColeman Coliseum inTuscaloosa, Alabama as a member of theSoutheastern Conference. They finished the season 18–16, 8–10 inSEC play to finish in a tie for ninth place in SEC play. They defeatedOle Miss[1] to advance to the quarterfinals of theSEC tournament where they lost toKentucky.[2] They received an invitation to theNational Invitation Tournament[3] where they lost in the first round toNorfolk State.[4]

On March 24, 2019, the school fired head coach Avery Johnson.[5] A few days later, the school hiredBuffalo head coachNate Oats as coach.[6]

Previous season

TheCrimson Tide finished the2017–18 season 20–16, 8–10 inSEC play to finish in a tie for ninth place. They defeatedTexas A&M andAuburn in theSEC tournament before losing in the semifinals toKentucky. They received an at-large bid to theNCAA tournament where they defeatedVirginia Tech in the first round[7] before losing in the second round toVillanova.[8]
