The2016 Washington Attorney General election was held on November 8, 2016, to elect theattorney general of Washington, concurrently with the2016 U.S. presidential election, as well aselections to theU.S. Senate and variousstate and local elections, including forU.S. House andgovernor of Washington. IncumbentDemocratic Attorney GeneralBob Ferguson was re-elected to a second term in office, defeatingLibertarian challenger Joshua Trumbull.[1]

Background

Ferguson was first elected in2012 againstRepublicanKing County CouncilorReagan Dunn, winning 53% of the vote to succeed RepublicanRob McKenna.[2] He ran for re-election to a second term.[3]

Washington is one of two states that holds atop-two primary, meaning that all candidates are listed on the same ballot regardless of party affiliation, and the top two move on to the general election.
