The2016 season was the eighth season forSeattle Sounders FC inMajor League Soccer (MLS), the top flight of professional club soccer in the United States. The team were managed bySigi Schmid until his firing in late July; he was replaced byBrian Schmetzer on an interim basis. The Sounders won their firstMLS Cup in the2016 final againstToronto FC, which ended in apenalty shootout after a scoreless draw.
