The2016–17 WHL season was the 51st season of theWestern Hockey League (WHL). The regular season began on September 23, 2016, and ended on March 19, 2017. TheRegina Pats won theScotty Munro Memorial Trophy for best regular season record for the first time since the1973-74 season. The playoffs began on March 24, 2017, and ended on May 14, 2017. TheSeattle Thunderbirds won their firstEd Chynoweth Cup, defeating Regina in the final, and earned a berth in the2017 Memorial Cup tournament, which was held at theWFCU Centre inWindsor,Ontario from May 19–28, 2017.[1]
