The2016–17 Maryland Terrapins men's basketball team represented theUniversity of Maryland, College Park in the2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were led by sixth-year head coachMark Turgeon and played their home games atXfinity Center inCollege Park, Maryland as members of theBig Ten Conference.
They finished the season 24–9, 12–6 inBig Ten play to finish in a tie for second place. As the No. 3 seed in theBig Ten tournament, they lost toNorthwestern in the quarterfinals. They received an at-large bid to theNCAA tournament. As a No. 6 seed in the West region, they lost in the first round toXavier.
TheTerrapins finished the2015–16 season with a record of 27–9, 12–6 inBig Ten play to finish in a four-way tie for third place in conference. They defeatedNebraska in the quarterfinals of theBig Ten tournament to advance to the semifinals where they lost toMichigan State. They received an at-large bid to theNCAA tournament where they defeatedSouth Dakota State andHawaii to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. In the Sweet Sixteen, they lost toKansas.
