The2016–17Football Superleague of Kosovo season, also known as theVala Superleague of Kosovo for sponsorship reasons was the 18th[A] season of top-tier football inKosovo. The season began on 19 August 2016 and concluded on 28 May 2017; the relegation play-offs will follow.Feronikeli are the defending champions.

A total of 12 teams are competing in the league: 10 sides from the2015–16 season and two promoted from theLiga e Parë.

The 2016–17 season will be the first full season that theFootball Federation of Kosovo will be a member ofFIFA andUEFA. Qualification for theUEFA Champions League will be determined at the end of the season, pending re-evaluation of the league's adherence toUEFA Financial Fair Play Regulations and stadium standards.

On 9 May 2017,Trepça'89 defeatedBesa 2–0 away from home to clinch their first league title.[1]Trepça'89 participated in thefirst qualifying round of the2017–18 UEFA Champions League, the first team from Kosovo to participate in the competition.[2]

Istogu andVushtrria were relegated after finishing theprevious season in eleventh and twelfth-place respectively. They were replaced by the champions and runners-up of the 2015–16Liga e Parë,Trepça andFerizaj respectively.

Notes:
  1. ^Besa would have qualified for the Europa League first qualifying round as the winners of the2016–17 Kosovar Cup, but failed to obtain a UEFA license.[4] As a result, the berth was given to the league runners-up,Prishtina.

Relegation play-offs

The ninth and tenth-placed teams,Drita andFerizaj respectively, each paired off against the third and fourth-placed teams from the 2016–17First Football League of Kosovo season,Vllaznia andDukagjini respectively; the two winners will play in the top-flight next season. As with previous seasons, both play-offs were played on neutral ground.

  2. ^abThe two teams, Drita and Gjilan, which use this stadium together with their fans, have named the stadium with different names. Drita andtheir fans call the stadium as Selami Osmani-Bezi Stadium, while Gjilan andtheir fans call the stadium as Agim Ramadani Stadium, but officially the stadium is called Gjilan City Stadium.[3]
