A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck inPishan County,Hotan Prefecture,Xinjiang,China 95 km (59 mi) southeast ofYilkiqi (يىلقىچى يېزىسى /依力克其乡), on July 3 at a depth of 20.0 km (12.4 mi).[1] The earthquake killed at least 3 people and wounded 71.[2][3]
The earthquake occurred on ablind thrust fault that ruptured but did not reach the surface. Instead, theearthquake rupture ceased some 3–7 km beneath the surface.[4]
Three people were killed and 71 others injured in a 6.5-magnitude earthquake that struck northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Friday morning.
