The2014–15Detroit Red Wingsseason was the89th season for theNational Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on September 25, 1926.[2]

Off-season

On May 23, 2014, it was announced that restrictedfree agentcentreCory Emmerton had signed withHC Sochi of theKontinental Hockey League (KHL) for the2014–15 season.[3]

On June 19, 2014, former Red Wings assistant coach,Bill Peters, was hired as the new head coach of theCarolina Hurricanes.[4] On July 15, 2014, the Red Wings hiredTony Granato as an assistant coach.[5] On July 30, 2014, the Red Wings hiredJim Hiller and Andrew Brewer as assistant coaches.[6]

On August 14, 2014, the Red Wings signed executive vice president and general managerKen Holland to a four-year contract extension through the end of the 2017–18 season.[7]
