The2013 STP 300 was the 18thstock car race of the2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series and the 24th iteration of theevent. The race was held on Sunday, July 21, 2013, inJoliet, Illinois, atChicagoland Speedway, a 1.5 miles (2.41 km) tri-oval speedway. The race took the scheduled 200 laps to complete. At race's end,Joey Logano, driving forPenske Racing, would be able to take away the lead from teammate and eventual-second-place finisherSam Hornish Jr. to win his 20th careerNASCAR Nationwide Series win and his second of the season.[1] To fill out the podium,Austin Dillon ofRichard Childress Racing finished third.
Chicagoland Speedway is a 1.5 miles (2.41 km) tri-oval speedway inJoliet, Illinois, southwest ofChicago. The speedway opened in 2001 and currently hostsNASCAR racing. Until 2011, the speedway also hosted theIndyCar Series, recording numerous close finishes including the closest finish in IndyCar history. The speedway is owned and operated byInternational Speedway Corporation and located adjacent toRoute 66 Raceway.
The first practice session was held on Saturday, July 20, at 11:30 AMCST, and would last for two hours and 30 minutes.[2]Regan Smith ofJR Motorsports would set the fastest time in the session, with a lap of 30.690 and an average speed of 175.953 miles per hour (283.169 km/h).[3]

Qualifying was held on Sunday, July 21, at 10:05 AMCST. Each driver would have two laps to set a fastest time; the fastest of the two would count as their official qualifying lap.[2]
Sam Hornish Jr. ofPenske Racing would win the pole, setting a time of 30.279 and an average speed of 178.341 miles per hour (287.012 km/h).[4]
Tim Schendel was the only driver to fail to qualify.
