The2013 Recopa Sudamericana (officially the2013 RecopaSantander Sudamericana for sponsorship reasons)[1] was the 21st edition of theRecopa Sudamericana, thefootball competition organized byCONMEBOL between the winners of the previous season's two majorSouth American club tournaments, theCopa Libertadores and theCopa Sudamericana.
The competition was contested in two-legged home-and-away format between two Brazilian teams,Corinthians, the2012 Copa Libertadores champion, andSão Paulo, the2012 Copa Sudamericana champion.The first leg was hosted by São Paulo atEstádio do Morumbi inSão Paulo on July 3, 2013, while the second leg was hosted by Corinthians atEstádio do Pacaembu inSão Paulo on July 17, 2013.[2]
Corinthians won both legs, the first leg by 2–1,[3] and the second by 2–0,[4] to win their first Recopa Sudamericana title. Corinthians captainDanilo was selected as the best player of the tournament.[4]
As of 2025, this is the only Recopa Sudamericana decided in a Brazilian derby (Clássico Majestoso), as both teams represent the state and city ofSão Paulo.
The Recopa Sudamericana was played on a home-and-awaytwo-legged basis, with the Copa Libertadores champion hosting the second leg. If tied on aggregate, theaway goals rule was not used, and 30 minutes ofextra time was played. If still tied after extra time, thepenalty shoot-out was used to determine the winner.
