The2013 National League Wild Card Game was aplay-in game duringMajor League Baseball's (MLB)2013 postseason played between theNational League's (NL) twowild card teams, theCincinnati Reds and thePittsburgh Pirates. It was held atPNC Park inPittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 1, 2013.[2] The Pirates won by a 6–2 score and advanced to play theSt. Louis Cardinals in theNL Division Series. The game was televised onTBS, and was also broadcast onESPN Radio.[3]

The game marked the first postseason appearance by the Pirates since1992 and the Pirates' victory gave the team their first postseason series win since the1979 World Series.[4] This was the third postseason appearance for the Reds in four seasons. It was the sixth postseason meeting of thePirates-Reds rivalry (the others being in theNLCS in1970,1972,1975,1979, and1990). Pirates managerClint Hurdle made his first postseason appearance since competing in the2007 World Series as manager of theColorado Rockies, whileDusty Baker fell to 0–3 in postseason appearances as manager of the Reds, a position from which he was relieved three days after the loss.[5] The loss continued the Reds' postseason win drought, active since the1995 National League Division Series.
