Elections to Inverclyde Council were held on 3 May 2012, the same day as the other 31local authorities in Scotland. The election used the sixwards created as a result of theLocal Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, with each ward electing three or four Councillors using thesingle transferable vote system form ofproportional representation, with 20 Councillors being elected in total.

The election sawLabour Councillors remain the largest party as they gained 1 additional seat to hold half the seats on the Council. TheScottish National Party also increased their representation by 1 seat and remained in second place on the authority. TheScottish Liberal Democrats remained in third place but lost half of their seats, falling from 4 seats to 2. TheIndependent andScottish Conservative and Unionist Party retained their solitary seats on the authority.

Following the election the Labour Party again formed a minority administration this time with the support of the Independent and the Conservative Party Councillors.
