Defending championSerena Williams defeatedVera Zvonareva in the final, 6–3, 6–2 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the2010 Wimbledon Championships.[1] It was her fourthWimbledon singles title and 13thmajor singles title overall. Williamsdid not lose a set during the tournament.[2]

Thereigning French Open championFrancesca Schiavone and runner-upSamantha Stosur both lost in the first round, marking the first time that the twoFrench Open finalists lost in the opening round of Wimbledon.[3]

Petra Kvitová (ranked 62nd) andTsvetana Pironkova (ranked 82nd) reached the semifinals, marking the first time since1999 that two unseeded players reached the semifinals. Pironkova became the first Bulgarian woman to reach a major semifinal.[a][4]
