The2009 Gerry Weber Open was a men'stennis tournament played on outdoorgrass courts. It was the 17th edition of the event known that year as theGerry Weber Open, and was part of theATP World Tour 250 series of the2009 ATP World Tour. It took place at theGerry Weber Stadion inHalle, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, from 6 June through 14 June 2009.

The singles draw featuredMiami,Monte Carlo andRome finalist,Dubai andBelgrade titlistNovak Djokovic and2008 Davis Cup winner,Brisbane runner-upFernando Verdasco. Also seeded wereJohannesburg andMarseille winnerJo-Wilfried Tsonga,Munich championTomáš Berdych,Dmitry Tursunov,Jürgen Melzer andRainer Schüttler.Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) No. 2Roger Federer, reigningUS Open champion, winner of theMadrid Open and runner-up in the2009 Australian Open, was initially in the draw as the top seed, but pulled out before playing a match, citing fatigue after winning theFrench Open the previous week.

The doubles draw was led by2009 French Open champions,US Open,Rotterdam, and2008 Halle finalistsLukáš Dlouhý andLeander Paes. Also present wereAcapulco winnersFrantišek Čermák andMichal Mertiňák,Martin Damm andRobert Lindstedt, andPhilipp Petzschner andAlexander Peya.

The singles event was won by GermanTommy Haas, who had earned a wildcard entry into the main draw, over Djokovic in three sets. The doubles were won by the unseeded German pair ofChristopher Kas andPhilipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets over the wildcard pair of GermanAndreas Beck and SwissMarco Chiudinelli.
