The2009 FA Community Shield (also known asThe FA Community Shield sponsored byMcDonald's for sponsorship reasons) was the 87thFA Community Shield, an annualfootball match contested by the winners of the previous season'sPremier League andFA Cup competitions. The match was contested atWembley Stadium,London, on 9 August 2009,[2] and contested by2008–09 Premier League championsManchester United, andChelsea as the winners of the2008–09 FA Cup, a repeat of the2007 match. The game ended in a 2–2 draw – the goals coming fromNani andWayne Rooney for Manchester United, and fromRicardo Carvalho andFrank Lampard for Chelsea – with Chelsea winning 4–1 onpenalties.[3]

This was also the first time since 1998 that Chelsea had won a professional match on penalties; The last instance was aLeague Cup quarter-final againstIpswich Town.[citation needed]
