The2008 Michigan Republican presidential primary took place on January 15, 2008.Mitt Romney came in first with 39 percent of the vote, followed byJohn McCain with 30 percent andMike Huckabee in third-place with 16 percent. The victory was widely viewed as critical for theRomney campaign, as a loss inMichigan, where hisfather wasgovernor, would have resulted in a loss of momentum after two losses already inNew Hampshire andIowa.

In accordance withRepublican National Committee rules, Michigan was stripped of half its delegates for holding primary contests before February 5, 2008.
