Further information:2007 Wimbledon Championships

Venus Williams defeatedMarion Bartoli in the final, 6–4, 6–1 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the2007 Wimbledon Championships.[1] It was her fourthWimbledon singles title and sixthmajor singles title overall. Williams, ranked 31st at the time and seeded 23rd, was the lowest-ranked and lowest-seeded woman ever to win Wimbledon (a record later surpassed byMarkéta Vondroušová in2023).[2][3] Williams became the first women's champion to earn the same amount of prize money as the men's champion, following the tournament's decision to award equal pay for the first time that year: a causechampioned by Williams herself.[4]

Amélie Mauresmo was the defending champion, but lost toNicole Vaidišová in the fourth round.[5]

Bartoli reached her first major final after a semifinal victory over world No. 1Justine Henin that was described as one of the biggest shocks in Wimbledon history.[6]

This was the first Wimbledon main draw appearance offuture champion and world No. 1Angelique Kerber, who lost toAnna Chakvetadze in the first round.
