2006 local election in England

Results of the 2006 Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council election

Elections toTameside Metropolitan Borough Council were held on 4 May 2006. One third of the council was up for election, with each successful candidate to serve a four-year term of office, expiring in 2010. TheLabour Party retained overall control of the council.

After the election, the composition of the council was as follows:[1][2]

Denton South ward

Shortly after hearing the result Councillor Arthur Grundy died; he had been suffering from terminal cancer. The seat was retained for Labour a month by Walter Downs later ina by-election.[3]
