Background

[edit]

Michigan International Speedway (MIS) is a 2-mile (3.2-kilometre) moderate-banked D-shapedspeedway located offU.S. Highway 12 on more than 1,400 acres (5.7 km2)[1] approximately 4 miles (6.4 kilometres) south of the village ofBrooklyn, in the scenicIrish Hills area of southeasternMichigan. The track is used primarily forNASCAR events. It is sometimes known as a "sister track" toTexas World Speedway, and was used as the basis ofAuto Club Speedway. The track is owned byInternational Speedway Corporation (ISC). Michigan International Speedway is recognized as one of motorsports' premier facilities because of its wide racing surface and high banking (by open-wheel standards; the 18-degree banking is modest by stock car standards).
