The2005 Georgia Bulldogs football team represented theUniversity of Georgia as a member of theSoutheastern Conference (SEC) during the2005 NCAA Division I-A football season. Led by fifth-year head coachMark Richt, the Bulldogs compiled an overall record of 10–3 with a mark of 6–2 in conference play, winning the SEC's Eastern Division. Georgia advanced to theSEC Championship Game, where the Bulldogs defeatedLSU. The Bulldogs finished the season with a loss in theSugar Bowl toWest Virginia. The team played home games atSanford Stadium inAthens, Georgia.

Coming off a strong 2004 season in which the Bulldogs were ranked No. 6 in the finalCoaches Poll, Georgia was ranked No. 13 in the preseasonCoaches Poll.D.J. Shockley was selected as the overall team captain and represented the offense.[5]Max Jean-Gilles was the other offensive captain, Kedric Golston andGreg Blue were the defensive captains and Mike Gilliam was captain of the special teams.
