The2005 Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship Game was held atReliant Stadium on December 3, 2005. The game saw theBig 12 South championsTexas Longhorns take on theColorado Buffaloes, winners of the Big 12 North. Texas, undefeated and at #2 in theBCS standings, was looking to travel to thenational championship.

Texas defeated Colorado, 70–3.[1] The win was the 8th largest margin of victory in Texas football history, and sent the Longhorns to the BCS title game inPasadena, where they defeatedUSC 41–38. The game would also be the last for Coloradohead coachGary Barnett, who was replaced on December 15 byDan Hawkins. Colorado would go on to lose 19–10 toClemson in the Champs Sports Bowl.
