The2002 Uttaranchal Legislative Assembly election were the1st Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) elections of the state ofUttaranchal inIndia, when theIndian National Congress emerged as the largest party and won a majority with 36 seats in the 70-seat legislature in the election. TheBharatiya Janata Party became the official opposition, holding 19 seats.[1]
