The2002California Insurance Commissioner election occurred on November 5, 2002. Theprimary elections took place on March 5, 2002. FormerDeputy Secretary of the InteriorJohn Garamendi, theDemocratic nominee, defeated Corporations Commissioner Gary Mendoza, theRepublican nominee, for the office previously held by Harry W. Low.[1]
