The2001 Southend-on-Sea Borough Council election took place on 7 June 2001 to elect members ofSouthend-on-Sea Borough Council inEssex,England. This was on the same day as the2001 general election and otherlocal elections.
The whole council was up for election with boundary changes since thelast election in 2000 increasing the number of seats by 12 to 51.[1] TheConservative Party stayed in overall control of the council.[2]
The results saw the Conservative increase their majority on the council after winning 32 of the 51 seats on the council.[3] TheLabour Party won 12 seats to become the main opposition, while theLiberal Democrats dropped to 7 seats.[3]
