The2001African U-17 Championship was the 4th edition (9th if editions of the tournament without hosts are included) of the biennial youthassociation football tournament organized by theConfederation of African Football (CAF) for its nations, consisting of players under the age of 17. This edition took place inSeychelles from 17 February to 3 March, with the finalists and the winning semi-finalist qualifying for the2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship.
Guinea were disqualified from competing in the final after FIFA suspended its national association a day earlier due to government interference, forcing the final to be postponed by a day and Guinea's semi-final opponentsBurkina Faso competing the final in their place.[1]
