The1998SkodaGrand Prix was a professionalrankingsnooker tournament that took place between 14–25 October 1998 at theGuild Hall inPreston, England.[1]

Dominic Dale was the defending champion, but he lost his last 64 match againstRobin Hull.

Stephen Lee andMarco Fu both contested a ranking tournament final for the first time in their careers, Fu in his first tournament as a professional being ranked 377 at the time of his final appearance; the lowest ranked finalist at any ranking event.[2] Lee prevailed 9–2 to claim his first ranking title.
