The1992 African Cup of Nations was the 18th edition of theAfrica Cup of Nations, thefootball championship of Africa (CAF). It was hosted bySenegal. The field expanded to twelve teams, split into four groups of three; the top two teams in each group advanced to the quarterfinals.Ivory Coast won its first championship, beatingGhana onpenalty kicks 11–10 after a goalless draw.[1]

The 2021 and 2023 tournaments were actually held in 2022 and 2024 respectively.
There were no 1957 and 1959 qualifications as places were given by invitation only.
