The1992-93 Football League Cup (known as theCoca-Cola Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the 33rd edition of theFootball League Cup, a knockout competition for English football's top four tiers.

This season's competition ran alongside the first season of the newly formedF.A. Premier League. The tournament was won byArsenal, beating top level rivalsSheffield Wednesday 2–1 in thefinal atWembley. This fixture would be repeated in thefinal of this seasons FA Cup also, which Arsenal would also win, albeit after a replay.[2]

Ipswich Town forwardChris Kiwomya would finish as the tournament's joint-top goal scorer, along with Sheffield Wednesday strikerMark Bright, andAlan Shearer ofBlackburn Rovers who all scored six.[3]

Although winning the League Cup gave the victors a pathway into next seasonsUEFA Cup, as Arsenal also won the FA Cup, they qualified for the more prestigiousEuropean Cup Winners' Cup, a tournament they would also win. Their spot in the UEFA Cup would be taken byNorwich City, who had finished third in the league.[4]

This years competition began with only 91 teams entering (as opposed to the more customary 92). This was followingAldershot's resignation from the Football League that previous March, and was reduced further still asMaidstone United also resigned on 17 August 1992, just two days before they were scheduled to play their first match.[5]
