The1988 All-America college football team is composed ofcollege football players who were selected asAll-Americans by various organizations and writers that choseCollege Football All-America Teams in 1988. TheNational Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) recognizes five selectors as "official" for the 1988 season.[1] They are: (1) theAmerican Football Coaches Association (AFCA);[2] (2) theAssociated Press (AP) selected based on the votes of sports writers at AP newspapers;[3] (3) theFootball Writers Association of America (FWAA);[4] (4) theUnited Press International (UPI) selected based on the votes of sports writers at UPI newspapers;[5] and (5) theWalter Camp Football Foundation (WC).[6] Other notable selectors includedFootball News (FN), theGannett News Service (GNS),[7] theNewspaper Enterprise Association (NEA),[8]Scripps Howard (SH),[9] andThe Sporting News (TSN).[10]
