The1987 Greek Super Cup was the 2nd edition of theGreek Super Cup and the 1st that was organized under theHFF, anassociation football match contested by the winners of the previous season'sAlpha Ethniki andGreek Cup competitions. The match took place on 29 August 1987 at theAthens Olympic Stadium. The contesting teams were the1986–87 Alpha Ethniki champions,Olympiacos and the1986–87 Greek Cup winners,OFI.[1][2][3][4]
This was the first Greek Super Cup held at theAthens Olympic Stadium.
The Athens Olympic Stadium was built in 1982. The stadium is used as a venue forPanathinaikos,Olympiacos andGreece and was used forAEK Athens in various occasions. Its current capacity is 80,000 and hosted aEuropean Cup final in1983 and aEuropean Cup Winners' Cup final in1987.[5]
Olympiacos participated in the Greek Super Cup one time in1980, where they had wonKastoria by 4–3.
OFI had never competed in the Greek Super Cup.
The two teams had never met each other in the Super Cup.[6]
