The1986 Texas Senate elections took place as part of thebiennialUnited States elections. Texas voters elected state senators in 16 of the 31State Senate. The winners of this election served in the70th Texas Legislature.

Democrats had controlled theTexas Senate since the1872 elections.

Results

Democrats maintained their supermajority in the chamber, winning 25 seats to the Republicans' 6.[1] The Senate had its most female members in its history up to that point with newly-elected SenatorsEddie Bernice Johnson andJudith Zaffirini joiningCyndi Taylor Krier in the chamber.[2]
