The1986 African Cup of Nations was the 15th edition of theAfrica Cup of Nations, afootball championship of Africa (CAF). It was hosted byEgypt. Just like in1984, the field of eight teams was split into two groups of four.Egypt won its third championship, beatingCameroon onpenalty kicks 5–4 after a goalless draw.

The 2021 and 2023 tournaments were actually held in 2022 and 2024 respectively.
